What is Autism?

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. Autism is a spectrum - this means everybody with autism is different.

Nobody knows what causes autism, or if it has a cause.

Symptoms include:

  • hard to communicate and interact with other people
  • hard to understand how other people think or feel
  • find things like bright lights or loud noises overwhelming, stressful or uncomfortable
  • have anxiety or become upset about unfamiliar situations and social events
  • take longer to understand information
  • do or think the same things over and over

What is ADHD?

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

We don't know what causes it. It can effect children and adults. In adults, smptoms can include:

  • organisation and time management
  • following instructions
  • focusing and completing tasks
  • coping with stress
  • feeling restless or impatient
  • impulsiveness and risk taking
  • issues with relationships or social interaction
